How to Apply for an AOPA Permit

Before applying for an Agricultural Operation Practices Act (AOPA) permit, operators should contact the nearest NRCB field office and ask to speak to an approval officer to confirm the type of permit they need to apply for and the technical information they will be required to provide.

Sections 2, 3, and 4 of the Agricultural Operation, Part 2 Matters Regulation set out the three types of permits:

  • approval—for a large confined feeding operation
  • registration—for a smaller confined feeding operation
  • authorization—for construction that does not affect livestock numbers
